If you could have just one wish, what would it be???
This story has been floating around for awhile, and it suits this topic...
A man walking on a beach finds an oddly shaped bottle. As he dusts the sand from it, a genie appears and offer to grant him one wish. The man led a challenged existence, with no wife, no kids, no home, no car, and his mother was completely blind. He thinks for just a moment and says, "Ok, I'm ready to make my one wish.... I wish my mother could see my beautiful wife put 2 karat diamond stud earrings in my girls' ears while they sit in my Mercedes Benz parked beside the pool behind my sprawling Beverly Hills mansion."
2 Chronicles 1:7-12
" 7 On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask! What shall I give you?”8 And Solomon said to God: “You have shown great mercy to David my father, and have made me king in his place. 9 Now, O Lord God, let Your promise to David my father be established, for You have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. 10 Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?”
11 Then God said to Solomon: “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king— 12 wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.”
God granted Solomon his wish, and along with wisdom, he gained so much more.
We decided to dig deep into the topic of wisdom, and here's just a taste of what we uncovered:
What does the Bible say about wisdom?
Proverbs 4:5-9 tells us to "Get wisdom! Get understanding!" We can't simply pray for God to make us wise. It requires action. We can pray, but then we need to pursue wisdom.
How do we get wisdom? Here are a few ways:
1. Ask God and study his word. (James 1:5)
2. Find a mentor, listen to their advice, and heed their instruction. (Proverbs 19:20)
3. Learn from our mistakes. (Proverbs 17:10)
Ok, now you've got all this great wisdom, right? So, what are you going to do with it? Ephesians 5:15-17 reminds us to walk as wise ones... Our wisdom should be reflected in our actions. You can have all the book smarts in the world but if you don't apply that to your everyday life then you miss the whole purpose. Budget your time, set goals, and put that wisdom into practice.
Ephesians 1:16-19 speaks about wisdom being the means to enlighten the eyes of our hearts so we may "know the hope to which God has called you". Put that wisdom to good use. Look for ways to love and help people every single day. God has a purpose for you! Get wisdom! Get understanding! Then get out there and make a difference in the world around you!
Love and blessings,
