Grace is total love and forgiveness to even those who don’t deserve it.
Psalm 103:8 says, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in mercy, slow to anger, abounding in mercy." That is gracious. Grace is being understanding beyond comprehension. It is mercy. It is patience. Grace can be a refrain from beeping as someone holds us up in traffic. It can also be extending forgiveness to someone who deeply hurt us. I often find myself getting so caught up in a moment. If I am with someone who is continuously being disrespectful toward me, I want to give them that same treatment. I want to be cold to them. Even if I am aware I’m acting poorly, I don’t want to correct it. Why should I? Why shouldn’t I treat them the way they treated me? |
Because if Jesus did that, we would all be suffering absolutely horrible, painful, unbearable deaths. Romans 3:23-24 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
Thank you, God, for your astounding grace. I feel so blessed to serve such a gracious loving God. I want to honor Him in all that I do. Treating that person the way they treated me would certainly not glorify God or his remarkable love.
2 Timothy 2:1 calls us to “...be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”
Acts 20:24 says, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”
How can I testify of the Lord’s mercy and grace if I am not doing everything I can to be an example of it?
Grace to me is stepping back and looking at the bigger picture. Do I know the details of this person’s day, week, or even life? No. How can I be angry with them if I do not know the reason behind their actions? Grace is giving people the biggest (and maybe the silliest) excuse for their actions I can think of.
If someone in front of me is driving painfully slow, I must assume they have a huge birthday cake in the car and don’t want to risk it falling. Grace is taking the extra moment to breathe and ask God to extend His grace and mercy to me so that I may glorify Him in all I do.

When I think of peace, four things come to mind: spiritual peace, financial peace, relational peace and world peace.
When I moved to Boston from Chicago for a new job, finding the people at Elevation Chapel helped me have spiritual peace. I was new to the area, but I found a faith-filled, life-giving church where I could make new friends and continue to grow in my faith. I do believe that God led me here. Jesus said in Luke 16:10, “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.” This important to me. Having the wisdom and knowledge to manage my finances helps me to be a steward over my income and gives me financial peace. |
The Bible inspires me to manage my finances well so that I am going forward, not backwards.
People can let us down and fall short. I have experienced this and I’m sure you have too. If we take a good look at ourselves first, we will see that none of us are perfect. But there is hope. My relationship with Jesus helps me to see that we all can be redeemed. Having relational peace helps me to have peace with our heavenly Father.
World peace. All I know is that we need to be mindful of one another and love above all things. Be conscious of the human in front of us. We are “humans – being”. John 14:27 says, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
My prayer for each one of you is the same as what the Apostle Paul prayed many years ago found in Romans 15:13: “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

One of the most important skills an actor needs is attention.
Being truly present in the moment and paying attention helps us to truly experience joy, empathy and other feelings. Without that, we only live in our heads, constantly making selfish decisions without understanding what others are feeling. My acting coach would always say, “Michael, it’s not about you.” Michael Proverbs 16:20 He who gives attention to the word will find good, And blessed is he who trusts in the Lord. |
Michael volunteers at Elevation wherever there is a need. He often leads the band singing and playing the guitar, preaches great sermons and whenever someone needs to be encouraged, Michael pays close attention and has a gift to speak life giving words to those in need.

In its simplest form, maintaining a budget is knowing how much money you’ve got coming in and making sure that what you spend doesn’t exceed that amount. As your life gets more complex, your budget will as well. Another way to put it is living within our means.
The Bible doesn’t use the word budget, but it talks a lot about Stewardship. A steward was someone who oversaw property or money for an employer. When we budget our time, energy, or resources, we are taking responsibility for that which God has entrusted to us. Cheryl Luke 12:42 The Lord replied, “A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them.” |
Cheryl is the church treasurer and does an excellent job with our budget. One of the things we encourage people here at Elevation to do is to create a budget for themselves. Setting personal goals like this, and learning how to manage money is a life skill that all of us can use.
The church is made up of many people that have different backgrounds and talents. We learn from one another what works and how to apply these truths to our lives. All of us are grateful for Cheryl's time and knowledge.

We all are going through Life (personal issues, finances, let downs, baggage etc) I always believed, before you enter a building take a deep breath. Pray and give your issues to God and leave them at the door before entering. Pray and ask God "How can you be a blessing towards someone today?”
Ryan Never be Anxious - Phillipians 4: 6-7 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus |
Ryan is new to the area. He moved here with his family recently from South Africa and plugged right into Elevation.
With his many years of working full time in television, Ryan volunteers each week to get our events filmed and available online. He has an incredible attitude and we are so grateful he chose Elevation as his home church here in the states.

Charity can come in so many different forms, most common being money. I feel the best form of charity is giving more of yourself to God's people. Show love, respect, attention, understanding, or a shoulder to cry on to homeless people or people less fortunate than ourselves. Volunteer to try to help someone out, maybe make a difference in someone or something. If you have some money, food, or clothing, share it. God always provides. Each letter in the word “charity” describes different ways of how charity can be viewed and received: Cash, Hug, Attention, Respect, Inspiration, Thanks, Yummy food. (lol)
Acts 20:35 has been a constant example to me of how you can help those in need by working hard. “You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Love, Jimmy |
1st John 3:16-19 “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? 18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”
After attending church today
I felt compelled to share my testimony of what Elevation Chapel means to me. I first met Max as my boxing instructor over 12 years ago. Three months later he told me about his church and it’s new location. I knew then I had to go support him and join his church. Best decision I have ever made. I’ve always been faithful but literally had not attended church for 32 years at that point. Max is not only an amazing Pastor but an amazing friend. My life has changed in the time since I met Max in such strong meaningful ways. Like all of us, I’ve had many trying times in my life. My first three sons were stillborn. |
I went through some extremely dark times but my faith pulled me through. I went on to have a son and a daughter and I am forever blessed beyond any measure. But wasn’t until I met Max and absorbed his insight and teachings that my faith grew a thousand fold, attending church and feeling the love that emanates throughout the church and it’s constituency.
My experiences with Max and Elevation Chapel include the day I got water baptized. Never thought I would have the courage to do that but God gave me that. In addition I now only listen to worship music in my car. I belt out the songs with such joy. I’m a much happier and more peaceful person now.
I face the trying times differently knowing that I’m loved from above and forgiven from the past. I wish more than anything that everyone could feel what I feel. It’s life changing.
Love, Kristi
After Church on Sunday we usually have a meal downstairs in our fellowship hall. Kristi leads this wonderful ministry because she loves to cook for people. Many friendships are made and developed around the food that Kristi and her team cook.
Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35
When you come to Elevation you should expect to be well fed. Spiritually, physically and emotionally.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have understood the value of education. Education allows you to learn more about the world, to understand others, and to understand yourself.
Education also provides an opportunity to change your circumstances, to improve your life, and to set a better trajectory for those that come after you. My mother instilled the importance of education in me. She valued it so much that she moved to the United States as a single mother with me to give me a better future and better prospects for my education. Since we were just starting a new life in this country, we moved around a lot and I attended three different high schools. |
While this was disruptive, I was set on making the most of the opportunities I had to pursue an education, and I dreamed of going to college.
With determination, I went on to college and then received a masters at one of the top schools for my field of study. While there were certainly hard times during that journey, my faith always provided the strength and the source of hope I needed. I was also surrounded by friends and family that were supportive and cheered me on.
Education also happens outside the walls of a classroom, and we have so many opportunities to learn all around us. Education is a lifelong journey, and we always have a chance to continue learning, no matter how young or old we are.
Proverbs 4:6-7
Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.
Love, Carolina
I remember the day I met Carolina. She was new to America and she joined the youth group where I was pastoring at the time. Everyone in the youth group loved and respected her because she is so caring and kind.
I have had a number of near death experiences and one of those was when Carolina made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe and I almost died. I am not kidding. Besides being one of the smartest people I know, Carolina is one of the funniest people I have ever met. Her sense for smart comedy is the best.
All these years later and I am so grateful that she calls Elevation her home church.

Love to me is taking care of someone and being nice.
There are different kinds of love- friendship, in a relationship, with family and generally towards others. You can show love even when someone is mean to you but you are still nice to them. Avah 1st Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. |
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
When we get out of school we stop getting report cards. What I decided years ago was to use this scripture as a report card on how I am doing in life. Especially in the area of love.
Love is Patient. What letter grade would you give yourself on how you are doing in being patient?
Love is kind. Are you getting an A in kindness?
Jealous? Boastful, Proud, Rude???
What grade are you getting in the Keeping no record of being wronged class?
Have you been giving up on people? Losing faith?
Time to start a new semester and Ace life. You can do it!
Coming to church helps us to do better in life and when you are Loving better, things go better. Work, school, home life, friendships, even in traffic. :)
Starting now, try to shine brighter than before. Love more. Be patient with people. Show kindness even when it is hard. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.
Love is the answer. God loves you and He wants you to see how much He is here for you. God will help you to love yourself more and love others.

Isaiah 26:3-4
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. In today's world, there are so many things competing for our attention. With information, news, conversations, and entertainment calling to us through the small devices in our pockets, on our wrists, or in our ears, the constant noise, at times, can be deafening. Psalm 37:7 Tells us to "Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.” |
I believe to truly be present with one another and with our God, we need to unplug from the noise and make space in the quiet, to hear one another, to hear God. This is not easy for me to do! But I am trying.
The best way for me to refocus my mind and heart on the Lord and receive his inexplicable peace is through starting the day with a devotional and reading the Bible. And, getting out into nature whenever possible! Even taking the trash out at night and looking up to see the moon and stars reminds me of the awesomeness, mercy, and grace of our Heavenly Father.

I used to think rest was the equivalent to laziness. I went into work early, skipped my lunch break and stayed late. Even once I was home I was not present with my family, but instead constantly refreshing my work email, replying to clients, and stressing over things I couldn’t take care of from home. I woke up multiple times during the night repeating what I had been doing since getting home. The negative impact on my mind, body, and relationships, including that with God, became more and more apparent. I was tired, burned out, cranky, and disconnected.
One morning at church, Michael shared a message that spoke to me so loudly I could not ignore it. “It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.” Psalms 127:2. |
Here God is not only wanting to give me rest, but insisting on it. In that moment I knew that I was not honoring God with my current work-life balance and committed to make a change.
There are times when I still need to go into work early, stay later, or take a work phone call after arriving home, but I have now set healthy limits for myself. Once I get home I am no longer glued to my phone. I sleep better and spend quality time with my family. When I feel overwhelmed or stressed out, instead of falling back into my old unhealthy habits I embrace God’s word.
Matthew 11:28 says, “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” When I think there is not enough time to get it all done I give it to God and trust Him while I rest. I thank Him for being willing and able to carry my burdens.
What have I gained? More time, more success, better relationships, better sleep, less anxiety, and less stress. A pastor once told me, “In order to have the best year of your life, you must have the best spiritual year of your life” and that includes obeying the Lord’s command to rest. Now that I have embraced God’s commandment, I know that it is not laziness, but God’s amazing gift to me.

God desires to speak to us, if we only listen.
He speaks to us in His word (the Bible), through nature, and the wonder of human life. He speaks to us through prayer and visions. All we have to do is open the door of our hearts and listen. Revelation 3:20 “Now pay attention; I am standing at the door and knocking. If any of you hear my voice and open the door, then I will come in to visit with you and to share a meal at your table, and you will be with me.” I’ve heard His voice and had visions of Him. He rescued me from the pits of grief and pride. These experiences have changed my life. His heart’s desire is to speak to you. All you have to do is listen. Are you ready? Linda |
Those of you who know Linda have been blessed by her. She is a gifted teacher. Incredibly kind and always cheering us on to learn more about God. She can teach the youngest to the oldest and makes the stories in the Bible come alive!

When I need to make a decision, I use my head mostly, but I also use my heart. My head factors in all the information I have, and my heart makes sure the potential outcome feels safe and healthy for me and others.
When I'm trying to make the "best" decision, I imagine all things combined: Healthy, safe, educated, beneficial. I mix all the properties in a big bowl, and the combination forms my best decision. Barbara Currently we are doing a study at our church on Making better decisions. Here are the 5 questions we are tackling. 1. Am I being honest with myself...Really? |
2. What story do I want to tell?
3. Is there a tension that deserves my attention.
4. What is the wise thing to do?
5. What does love require of me?
These questions come from Andy Stanley's book, Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets.
Coming to church and joining in on studies like these are sure to help you make better decisions. I encourage you to write those 5 questions down and keep coming back to them. Want to join our study group? Just let me know and I would be happy to get you connected.

This is what friendship means to me. Let’s say you are at school, and you see someone you haven’t seen in a long time, and you find it easy to re-connect and play together. That is friendship.
God says that we should love our neighbor and friends are like our neighbors. It’s like you think of them as family. I think you should love your friends like you love your family. I think God wants us to be a nice friend and a caring friend. Michael |
The Yellow project was an idea that came out of attending a children’s event at Elevation. After the kids had a meal together, they were asked to say something nice about another kid in the room. This went on and on. They had so much to say. It showed me that these kids at church saw so much good inside each other. They lifted each other up.
What if we did this as adults? Imagine going to work and going up to each co-worker and telling them all the good you see in them. Imagine if someone came up to you and told you how amazing you are.
We can learn a lot about life through the eyes of a child.
Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times.
Church is a place where friendships are built to last. We grow together and support one another.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.
Please do not go through life alone. Find your community. A few trusted friends.

I am so thankful that God has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit!
If I didn’t have the Holy Spirit within me to teach me and guide me, being a Christian would be an impossible task. It would be a dry and fruitless attempt to live up to a set of rules. It would be like trying to follow the example Jesus set for me during his time on earth without having the power to do so. I love that the Holy Spirit prompts me, nudges me, and empowers me to be the person God wants me to be. Jesus made amazing promises to us in John 14:16-17, 21, and 26: “I will ask the Father to send you another Helper, the Spirit of truth, who will remain constantly with you. The world does not recognize the Spirit of truth, because it does not know the Spirit and is unable to receive Him. |
But you do know the Spirit because He lives with you, and He will dwell in you. The one who loves Me will do the things I have commanded. My Father loves everyone who loves Me; and I will love you and reveal My heart, will, and nature to you. The Father is sending a great Helper, the Holy Spirit, in My name to teach you everything and to remind you of all I have said to you.” (The Voice Translation)
The best part about these promises is that they are for EVERYONE who has believed in Jesus as their savior! If you are a follower of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is a gift for you too!
Phil
Everyone who knows Phil is grateful for his friendship. He is one of the best listeners I have ever met. When someone is in need of help, Phil can, with great precision listen to their problem, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, help that person to see the correct way to deal with their situation.
Phil has done this for me countless times and I am forever grateful for him and the Holy Spirit.
Having people in your life that you trust is a great blessing.

In a culture that glorifies "self"- self-love, self-care, self-esteem - worship is an essential opportunity to focus our attention and affection on Someone who truly worthy.
In essence, worship is agreeing with who God says He is. It's expressing your trust in his nature and character in every aspect of your life, whether that's God's excellence in our work, His loving kindness in our parenting or even His faithfulness as we rest. We have the privilege of worshiping God in many ways, my favorite happens to be through song. Tamara |
One of the best things about Elevation is that there are people from all over the world.
Tamara and her family moved here from South Africa and found a home not only in Newton, but at Elevation. Tamara led worship back home and her husband worked in television. They use their skills to give everyone on Sunday a wonderful experience.

I think it is important to read the Bible because it is how we know what God has said. We can learn from what God said to people in the past and apply it to our life when it makes sense to.
Reading the Bible for ourself other than just hearing what other people say it says, protects us from being misled. If you read if for yourself you can better understand it in your own way. Maybe that is better than having someone explain it to you. I think I get more out of it that way. Joe |
In the book of Joshua God speaks to him and says this - Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
- Joshua 1:8-9
Here Joshua was taking over for Moses. The task was big. God told Joshua to meditate on His words day and night.
When we are faced with big challenges we are not alone. I find it both encouraging and comforting when I read the Bible and draw strength from those that have lived before me.
The Bible is my guide book on life. The Bible is 66 books. If you want to start reading it for yourself my advice is start with the Gospel of Mark. Another great one to start with is Proverbs.
Last but not least, read it in a modern translation. One that makes sense to you. I use the NLT (New Living Translation)

As a mom of two, I know how important is patience in our lives. It’s a key to get along in the everyday life and in every relationship. However, in our rushing modern life we are always lack of patience. We should use the same patience for each other as God patiently forgives our sins again and again if we ask in prayer.
That’s why He sent the Holy Spirit to lead us and one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is patience. It’s something we should continously work on to make this world a better place and patiently wait for God to fulfill the promises He promised us because He already has a plan for all of us by the time we are born. I had a couple of big steps in my life and God was there with me every time. |
I believe He still has plans for me and patience is one of the tools to help me get there and live the life He prepared for me.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2Peter 3:9
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.” Psalm 37:7

I think of Christ as my liberator. He set me free from addiction, depression and a lifestyle where I was allowing myself to be abused. Bad relationships. A life of unhappiness. My life was void of hope. I didn’t believe that things could be better or that I could change. I felt unworthy.
When I came to a place where I knew Christ was real and that he loved me, and that His love could set me free. It is hard to explain in words. But He set me free. He liberated me and gave me freedom. God can set you free from anything. It isn’t something that you can repay. It’s free. It is pretty remarkable. Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Love Laurie |
Nature has always been relaxing to me. Being outdoors brings me peace. I think it’s easy to believe in God when you surround yourself with nature.
The complexity of it shows the magnitude of who God is. Stars especially demonstrate God’s power to me. Even when I look at them through a telescope, they still look so small. That incomprehensible vastness makes it impossible to not believe in something greater. It’s easy to be distracted and stressed with so much going on in life, but when I take time to appreciate God’s creation it’s easy to forget about all that. Nature makes me feel closer to God because it’s his artwork in its purest form. |
I think more people could experience God’s power through kayaking, hiking, surfing, or even stargazing.

Kindness means being nice to people and not being mean.
I think God wants us to be kind to others because he is kind to us no matter what. If God is kind then we should be kind too. Leif One of the things we focus on at our church is teaching on kindness. This may seam obvious and simple but the reality is that there is still a big need for love, peace and kindness in our world. Ephesians 4:32 "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." You have probably experienced the opposite of kindness in your life at some point. We all have. the Bible has wonderful things to teach us about this subject. |
1st Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
This is one of the most popular portions of scripture in all of the Bible. Look at the beginning - Love is patient and kind. Try applying this to your life each day. make a decision that your attitude will be that you will be patient even when you are stressed. That you will practice kindness even when you want to yell, or say something that could hurt someone.
Everyone wants to change the world. Start by changing yourself. We are here to help.

Humility is a quality that is often overlooked. You don’t really hear people say, “I need more humility.” But it’s something God really emphasizes throughout the Bible.
He calls us to check ourselves and remain humble. We should remind ourselves to consider others’ needs before our own. Philippians 2:3 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Sarah I heard someone say that, "Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real." Sarah is one of the most real human beings I have ever met. She leads our Children's Ministry and does an amazing job. |
We love good quotes at Elevation. Here are a few on Humility.
"Never Look down on anyone unless you are helping someone else."
"Humility is the essence of love and intelligence."
"Humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will."
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less."
May these inspire you to live your life filled with humility.

I was lost, but now I am found. I was dead, and now I am alive. In the midst of it all, in every circumstance, every hardship, every moment, my best friend has been by my side.
Even when I dont feel Him, when I doubt and fear, He never leaves. He’s always present, He’s always right there. He has never failed me, even when I think He does, everything He does is for my good. My amazing savior, has given me, what I, and no one else could ever give me. He has set me free, has called me his son, has redeemed me! O how I love Him! O how wonderful is He! How precious is His name! Words cannot express, how amazing He is! My Jesus, is the best thing that has ever happened to me, He has given me more than I could ever want or need. My amazing shepherd, will always supply, my best friend, will always be by my side. |
I couldn’t earn Him, I do not deserve Him, I am no different than anyone else. Jesus died for me, just as He died for you. Jesus loves me, just as He loves you. You will never be able to deserve Him, He gives himself to you. All you need to do, is receive him.
O how great is his love for you! In that, He was mocked, hated, spit on, beat so bad he was unrecognizable, had a crown of thorns smashed into his head, had his beard plucked out, and has hung on a criminals cross.
The same God who created all things, came down into this little spec in His universe, and died on that cross, so that we may know Him. Died on that cross for you, yes, you. O how much does he long for you! Will you choose to know Him?

I’m an aspiring expert-carpenter. I work as a carpenter for a company and I get joy out of it. For me, Going to work isn’t just about being a good employee and making the customer happy, it’s about honing my craft. It’s about practicing my skills; it goes beyond professionalism and is furthermore personal.
To become an expert, one must practice and learn. All of the experts I’ve learned from have told me that they are still, always learning. I’m grateful that I found a field of expertise. I believe I’m gifted with the ability and patience to measure cut and instal work pieces in a demanding and sometimes uncomfortable environment (dust, heat, cold, heights, loud noises). |
Going to church at elevation chapel has introduced me to the Bible and what Jesus had to say about navigating your way through this life. Some of his teachings are the best advice I could ever ask for when preparing to go to work and excel at my craft. (Being a light to others, willing to communicate and help…and more).
Here’s a little verse that resonates with me personally: “each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. -Peter 4:10.

To me determination means to have hope and never give up. Even when times are tough you can push through and stay focused to reach your goals. God helps us everyday to persevere through challenges and we can always look to him for a boost.
Be on your guard stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 1st Corinthians 16:13 Xara Each of us will face times in our life when we need to exercise determination and push through that challenges we face. Do not give up just because something is difficult or challenging. |
In the Bible the teacher (Paul) encourages the student (Timothy) to "stir up the gift of God which is in you." 2nd Timothy 1:6
Do you have anyone encouraging you?
Romans 12:11-13 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. 12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.13 When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.
Just like God used men and women in the Bible to inspire others, there are people in our church that have a gift and ability to support you.

I choose the word heal because now more than ever we are seeing a rise in the number of people suffering from illness and disease. People are in desperate need of healing within their bodies, their heart, and their spirit.
Mark 5:34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering." I can testify to that in my own life. I was sick for many years with undiagnosed chronic Lyme disease. I prayed for a long time for God to heal me and despite my prayers I continued to get sicker. Being a single mom of two young children, my rapidly deteriorating health was very concerning. I would be bedridden for days at a time. All I could do was pray. |
One day while lying sick in my bed I started talking to God. Lyme disease had completely rendered me powerless and had taken over my body. All that was left of me was my heart and I poured my heart out in prayer. I fully surrendered my life and my children into the hands of God. I said, “God I don’t know why you haven’t healed me but I love you still and if it is not your will to deliver me from this disease then I pray that you take good care of my children and place them with the right caretakers.” As I was praying I felt the presence of love all around me, like God was giving me a great big hug and saying I love you too. It was a bittersweet moment in which I felt great sadness and tremendous love all at the same time.
Within a week from that prayer God placed the right people into my life who were able and willing to help me heal from Lyme at no cost. That day in bed I had nothing left to cling to other than the love of God and that set in motion a series of events in which God opened new doors and made what seemed impossible possible. My life has continued to improve since I surrendered my life over to his will, trusting and knowing that my Heavenly Father loves me so much. God made a way for me to heal physically, emotionally and spiritually. I have learned so much about how loving God is through my illness. I’m on the other side now and actually in school for holistic health coaching. God has used what was meant to destroy me to strengthen and promote me. How great is our God!

When you pray to Jesus he will give you power and don’t need to be afraid because Jesus will protect you.
Isaiah 40:29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Maryrose Children at Elevation learn to be strong and wise at an early age. Each Sunday after the music portion of the service the children are welcome to join a group downstairs where they have fun learning from timeless stories in the Bible. The Yellow Project came as an idea to me after I watched how much these kids not only understand what they are learning but also how much they can exercise what they know. |
The love and kindness that they show one another as well as their teachers gives me great hope for the future.
We are beyond blessed by children's program. They are teaching us.

Ray is still dancing, playing the guitar and even riding his bike and he is in 90's!
Just last week when he took this photo he was showing us his dance moves. Psalm 149:3 Praise his name with dancing, accompanied by tambourine and harp. Studies have shown that when you are part of a spiritual community that there is a good chance you will live longer. The largest study I found said people live an average of 7 extra years. Now there are no guarantees but that certainly is interesting. So why would that be? |
My best guess is that when you are a part of a spiritual community like Elevation Chapel, you have more peace, less stress and a beautiful sense of belonging.
Proverbs 3:1-2 My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying.
Ray inspires me with the joy he carries. Hope he inspires you too.
